I coach people in healthcare organisations, such as nurses, doctors, therapists, carers and volunteers. My focus is on intercultural communication and diversity in patient encounters.

In communication training for palliative care and hospice work, I combine my many years of experience with diversity training, intercultural communication and bereavement counselling.

I combine my many years of experience as a trainer in intercultural communication and diversity with the daily challenges of communication between staff and patients. It is important that employees have the opportunity to reflect on cultural differences and aspects of diversity in their daily work and to develop options for action.

​

Death and grief are part of life. Ever since I started working as a bereavement counsellor, I have been dealing with the issues of diversity, dying, death and bereavement. This has resulted in a special course concept for palliative care and hospice workers

Challenges in communication

​

Hospitals bring together people from different cultural, professional and generational backgrounds. This diversity can open valuable perspectives, but it also poses challenges for communication. In particular, the interaction between patients and healthcare professionals requires sensitivity and intercultural understanding, as everyone wants their concerns and needs to be recognised and understood.

To improve the quality of communication and avoid misunderstandings, this training programme focuses on the core issues of intercultural communication. It offers both theoretical knowledge and practical approaches that can be applied directly in everyday hospital life.

Training: Dying, death and bereavement in the context of diversity and migration

A culturally sensitive approach

​

Dealing with dying, death and bereavement is strongly influenced by culture and religion and varies considerably depending on people’s individual backgrounds. In the context of migration, patients and their families in hospitals and care facilities are often confronted with death-related practices that are very different from their own.

​

My training prepares health professionals for the cultural differences in dealing with dying, death and bereavement. It provides them with the necessary knowledge and helps them to develop crucial skills to deal appropriately with patients and their families in this emotional situation.

anti-discrimination training

Strengthening an inclusive working environment

 

Diversity in everyday hospital life is a valuable resource that can contribute to improving patient care. However, racism and discrimination continue to be barriers that result in untapped potential. An appreciative approach to diversity is therefore crucial to creating an inclusive and respectful working environment that is inclusive of both staff and patients.

The aim of the training is to raise awareness of prejudice and discrimination and to promote empathy and intercultural competence.

Diversity in nursing education

Learning to deal with cultural diversity in education

​

Practical instructors and trainees are already confronted with diversity and different cultural backgrounds in nursing education, both within teams and in contact with patients. The ability to communicate cross-culturally and to interact in a culturally sensitive way is therefore a crucial learning content.

​

My training courses help trainers and trainees to organise care processes in harmony with different cultural contexts, to reflect critically on these processes and to develop options for action.

Further Education for Internationally Educated Nurses (IEN): Diversity & integration in everyday clinical practice

Fitting into the team

​

Internationally Educated Nurses (IEN) are a valuable part of the nursing staff in German hospitals. They bring not only a wide range of professional experience, but also cultural perspectives that can enrich the quality of patient care. However, the transition into everyday hospital life can be challenging due to linguistic as well as cultural and structural differences. The training programme I have designed aims to optimally prepare IENs for their work in German hospitals and to promote their integration into the team.
